NEW CONSERVATORY ART INSTALLATION ENCOURAGES VISITORS TO TAKE A BUG’S EYE VIEW
A new art installation titled “A Bug’s Eye View” created especially for children by artists Bridget Melling-Williams and Leanne Costantino will open on Monday August 9 in the Rosalind Park Conservatory as part of the City of Greater Bendigo’s Children's Art Network.
The installation will include giant blades of grass that create the basis of a fantasy garden where children can move around and get a bugs eye view of the world.
Using their imagination, children can put on a bugs-eye mask and sweep around the environment and interact with large model creepy crawlies. They will also get a feel for the scale of life as a giant pair of feet are suspended from the ceiling and appear to be stomping down from above.
The work will not only be fun and interactive for children to explore, but will also create an amazing spectacle when viewed from the edges, creating a living scene, as though peering into miniature world through a magnifying glass.
The art installation has taken an environmentally conscious approach with approximately 80per cent of the work produced from recycled material and reverse garbage.
This is a guiding principal of the artists who believe that you don’t need a lot of money to entertain children and the best kind of imaginative play can be achieved with found objects and a bit of creativity.
“A Bug's Eye View” has been produced as part of the City of Greater Bendigo's Children's Art Network and will be open daily until Sunday August 29, 2010. Further information s available from Rohan Phillips on 54346 6478.
